Have you ever looked around your home and felt overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff you own?
From clothes spilling out of closets
Cabinets not able to close
That growing up in the 90's plastic bag filled will 2355 other plastic grocery bags
Do you ADHD clean?
You know, stuffing stuff under your bed or in the closet so its out of sight out of mind.
(that was me, still is me when it comes to tax papers)
Except its still VERY MUCH IN YOUR MIND.
How many kitchen gadgets are in the cute vase on your you've never used?
Our lives can become cluttered with things that don't actually bring us joy. We spend the money to get a dopamine kick and then BAM! You are now the owner of a 60 piece tupperware set that you didn't need nor have the space for. A mushroomcore zen decor piece of art from Homegoods. Those are WANTS - not NEEDS. What we need is a lifestyle that’s all about finding happiness in less.
That’s where minimalism comes in –
Now take it easy, we are not asking you to choose your top 5 favorite things and torch the rest; its more to learn how embracing minimalism can help you discover a more joyful, clutter-free life. Even if you decide to implement only a single aspect of minimalism in your millennial mindful life, you are doing yourself a immense favor for wellness overall.
Imagine walking into a room that feels open, airy, and inviting. No piles of clothes on the floor, no endless knick-knacks collecting dust, just a serene space that’s all yours. This is the magic of minimalism. By decluttering and keeping only what you truly need and love, you create a living environment that feels peaceful and rejuvenating.
Less Stuff = More Freedom
Minimalism isn’t about living with the bare minimum; it’s about living with intention.
When you strip away the excess, you’re left with what really matters. Think about how much time you spend managing your belongings – cleaning, organizing, and worrying about them. By owning less, you free up time and mental energy to focus on experiences and activities that bring you genuine happiness.
--->When we moved out of the townhouse we threw so much away. We got to the new house and still threw more stuff away. I donated hundreds of housewares, gadgets, clothes and furniture. Somehow even after 2 years of being in the new house, I am still gathering bulls!it that can be dropped off at Goodwill.
Capsule Wardrobe (black & gray go with everything)
2 - 3 of each Kitchen Cooking Utensil (tongs, spatulas, pot holder)
Limited Home Decor (limits dust and unnecessary cleaning)
Financial Benefits of Minimal Living
Okay, let’s talk money.
One of the surprising perks of minimalism is how it can improve your finances.
When you adopt a #minimalistmindset, you become more mindful about your purchases.
You are aware of the differences of WANTS vs NEEDS when it comes to spending.
Instead of impulse buying or chasing the latest trends, scrolling the TikTok shop or Temu, you make thoughtful decisions based on need and value. This not only saves money but also reduces financial stress, leaving you feeling more secure and content in your life.
Minimalism encourages you to value quality over quantity. Instead of filling your home with countless items that you pick up for $19.99 at TJMAXX, you focus on owning fewer, high-quality pieces that you truly love. This approach extends beyond possessions to experiences and relationships, fostering a deeper appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.
Clutter of any kinds, can be a significant source of stress and anxiety.
It’s like a constant visual reminder of tasks undone and chaos.
Minimalism helps clear that mental clutter. By creating a space that’s organized and simplified, you reduce stress and create a sense of calm. It’s easier to relax and unwind in an environment that’s not screaming for your attention. TIP: Wipe down the counters in the kitchen and do the dishes before going to bed. You'll be pleased to start the day with clean energy super center of the house!
Ready to embrace minimalism?
Start small.
Choose one area of your home, like your wardrobe or kitchen, and begin decluttering.
Ask yourself these three things
Why did I purchase this?
Have I used it/ worn it/ seen it in the past 60 days?
Does this item bring you joy or serves a purpose?
If it brings feelings of unease or its been lost and only just found -let it go. Remember, minimalism is a journey, not a destination.
Take it one step at a time and enjoy the process.
Embarking on a #minimalismjourney is about so much more than just getting rid of stuff. It’s about finding happiness in simplicity, freeing yourself from the weight of excess, and living a life that’s truly fulfilling.
So why not give it a try?
You may just find that happiness comes in having less, not more.
